Dear Parents,

Welcome! I’m Josephine Isgro, and here to help support and empower your child on their educational journey. I understand that every child is unique, and I'm here to provide them with the tools and guidance they need to become self-directed learners.

I specialize in helping upper elementary and middle school students tackle those everyday struggles – staying organized, avoiding procrastination, and shaking off discouragement – by teaching them essential skills such as time management, prioritized planning, self-advocacy, goal setting, and effective study strategies. Through individualized coaching, I help equip your child with essential skills that will serve as a solid foundation for their academic and personal growth.
I'm really looking forward to teaming up with your family and helping your child boost their confidence and take ownership of their learning!

About Me
Josephine is a certified Executive Function Coach, the driving force behind Focused & Functional LLC, and an advocate for coaching children in executive function. With three children, each with their unique learning style, she has dedicated the past decade to nurturing and coaching them. Josephine intimately comprehends the modern learning landscape's challenges and has committed herself to mastering these issues, not only for her own children but also to make your child feel and achieve success.

Josephine's coaching sessions benefit from a remarkable blend of personal and professional experience. Her medical background includes serving as a Pediatric Rheumatologist at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital in NYC, where she also held a faculty position at Columbia University Medical Center. She completed her Pediatric Residency training at Northwestern University, earned her M.D. at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, and obtained her B.A. in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware.

In 2014, after nearly a decade of practicing medicine, Josephine made the decision to redirect her focus towards nurturing and guiding her three young children. Her career as a pediatric rheumatologist instilled in her a profound understanding of pediatric development and equipped her with the essential skills for teaching, mentoring, and handling complex pediatric cases. It soon became evident that these skills were incredibly valuable in raising children with distinct learning differences, such as dyslexia, ADHD, and executive function weaknesses. Armed with her knowledge of the developing brain's neuroanatomy and the critical importance of early intervention, she delved into discovering strategies and techniques to strengthen neural pathways and reinforce connections.

This mission soon turned into her passion. Josephine witnessed the transformative effects not only on her struggling child but also on her entire family. Observing her own child thrive, experience success, and cultivate self-confidence through her coaching efforts ignited her determination to help other students and families bring about these positive changes in their lives. In early 2023, she completed her training and certification in executive function coaching and remains actively engaged in continuing education courses, particularly focusing on children and teenagers.

Josephine has stood where you are today. She comprehends firsthand the impact executive function weaknesses can have on your child and your entire family. Her objective is to partner with you and your child to bolster their executive function skills, foster their confidence, and empower them to feel successful.
